5great first cup  Nov 16, 2010
By Carrie
This is working out really well as my daughter's (9mo) first cup. She's a breastfed baby who also gets 3 bottles a day at daycare. I love the size of this little 4 oz cup. Larger cups mean that I have to fill them up so that she dosn't have to tip all the way back to get the liquid, which is tricky for a beginer. She can easily hold the cup with 2 hands just as she would hold a bottle. The soft spout (though much harder than a bottle nipple) allows her to grasp and teeth easily unlike the smooth platic ones that her gums slide right off of before she can get the idea to suck. This little cup fits easily into her lunch bag or the diaper bag and it has a nice little cover to protect the top from dirt. For us, the idea of switching from bottle to cup is to progress her motor skills, move towards taking other liquids and teach her how to use a real cup, not just a sippy. This cup allows for these things, since the sippy top removes easily converting to a small and mangeble cup for a little one. The lid and sippy valve fit tightly and in the 2 weeks we've been using it I have not noticed any leakes

5Our sippy cup quest has ended!  Jan 15, 2012
By msg2be
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2WA0PR7Q1TRJI The video is not really a formal review, but rather, showing you my 8 month old using the tumbler for the third time. We tried 6 different sippy cups in total: the Green Sprouts 6 oz. sippy cup, the Nuk Learner Cup, the Zoli BOT straw cup, the Nuby 2 Handle Flip-It Straw Top Sippy Cup, the Gerber Graduates Sip and Smile Spill Proof Cup and the Vital Baby Baby's 1st Tumbler. We tried all but the tumbler 5 times (the tumbler was the last to arrive and he took to it pretty quickly).

I soon learned that he did not understand how to suck from a straw and had the inclination to tip a cup like his bottle. Of the two straw cups, the Zoli was the one I preferred. The Zoli is easier to clean and has fewer parts (easier to disassemble/assemble during cleaning), also the bottom of the straw is weighted, so even if the cup is tipped at an odd angle, the bottom of the straw will still be in liquid. The Nuby cup has an area that cannot be cleaned where spilled milk or juice can cause smelly and unhealthy buildup. If your baby is not inclined to tip his bottle or sucks on things other than his bottle, the straw sippies, especially the Zoli may be for you.

Even though the silicone straw/spout of the Zoli, Nuby, and Nuk cups are silicone like his bottle nipples, they are a different shape and he did not want to suck them and chewed them instead. If your baby is younger when you want to start them on sippy cups, not teething yet (mine is getting his second tooth in now), the Nuk cup may be a good fit because it is softer and has a slower liquid delivery. My boy was frustrated by the small amount of liquid he got when trying to drink from the Nuk and that reinforced it as more of a teether to him than a cup.

The three cups he preferred all had firmer spouts, but the Gerber sippy was still too much fun to chew (softer spout). He definitely understands that you suck from the spout of the Green Sprouts, but the liquid delivery is still too fast for him, even with the valve.

The Vital Baby Tumbler has a semi-soft spout (not rigid like plastic, but not super flexible like silicone nipples and straws), is small and easy to hold, even without handles because it has some grip rubber material on the sides and only holds 4 oz. Yes, it does not hold enough for a full milk feeding, but when he learns to drink better, I will remove the valve and then eventually graduate him to another cup that holds more liquid. For now, I'm glad that I finally found a sippy cup small enough for him to pick up from his food tray and hold on his own, does not leak or spill (even when he shakes it or throws it off his high chair) and has only three parts, the top (with spout), the valve (which is designed to be easy to remove and reattach during cleaning), and the cup. It is dishwasher safe and has no hidden nooks and crannies for yucky buildup. You can even choose your color (which is not the case on Amazon for all the others except for the Zoli). I am about to order 2 more (a steal at $4.49) and had to write this review after taking the video of my little one this evening.

We'll try again and update when he takes a break from teething to see if that changes his preferences.

2It leaks!  Jun 24, 2011
By Vivimom "Vivimom"
This cup leaks every time I give it to my daughter. It leaks through the side of the screw top. I bought this as her first sippy cup. It is small, but the mouthpiece is hard. She still cannot tip it back far enough to drink out of it. I would not buy this cup again.

5best sippy cup  Apr 05, 2011
By TK
I've tried almost every sippy cup out there for my now 14 month old daughter. Here's why this wins out as our favorite: it's smaller size means she doesn't have to tip back as much to get the liquid out and it's the perfect size for small hands; the spout is soft enough to be gentle on her teeth and gums, but not so soft that it encourages her to chew on it, the spout is a nice shape - not too large or chunky; and I like that you can use this without the valve. We've only used this without the valve so cannot comment on how the valve works. The only negative is that without the valve, the cap does not prevent the cup from leaking from the spout/vent when it's in the diaper bag. Still our favorite and I'm stocking up on these.

3good size, rigid spout  Feb 18, 2011
By Ikko
It was my daughter's first sippy cup, but she still could not figure out what to do with it. The spout is doesn't have any resemblance to nipples. I have to buy a different one to teach her. Maybe later on it will be good for her, since the size is good.
