good if you can get it together Jul 15, 2005
By L. Brady I love this rail. It's the perfe ct size and easy to put up and down. Yes, it is very difficult to get together because the fabric is so taut that you have little room to manuever. It was very easy to attach to the bed and adjust once it was up. I'm looking to buy another one for our shore house.

Good bed rail Jan 28, 2009
By Chae An I didn't think it was that difficult to put together. In fact, I assembled it just looking at the big picture on the box, and not the instruction book. The fabric was a bit snug and it took some effort to pull it taut but the end result is a nice firm screen that will not give much if your child pushes on it.
The bottom "clips" were pretty self-explanatory, and as long as they are adjusted to fit the mattress, the entire assembly is very sturdy. Unfortunately, they will not fit a crib mattress, as the clips cannot be retracted narrow enough to fit a crib mattress. I really think they should have designed the bed rail to fit a crib mattress, twin and full, not twin, full and queen. I don't think many kids that require a bed rail sleep on a queen mattress anyway. That's the only reason I took a star off.
The rail swings 180' down from the up position (provided the bedframe is of sufficient height) and that should make it easy during the day, as my daughter loves to climb up and down her crib. All in all, a very nice product that is worth $30 I paid for it.

I am pleased! Apr 22, 2008

I had read up a lot about bed rails. Still I wasn't sure which was safe and was not confident about buying any one in particular. So, I finally decided to buy a used "First Years FoldDown Bedrail" just to try out.
This was used on two children before I bought it for my toddler. But feel it still is as good as new and working very well. In fact I transitioned my baby from crib to twin bed with this rail, at 14 mo of age. He is doing very well till date. I just make sure to get to him as soon as I hear him wake on the baby-monitor. He even gets off the bed safely by himself if needed.
I have had this for 4 mo now. Looks like I will keep it till he grows out of rails.

Quality Issues Dec 31, 2006
By Claidmaugh Just bought this from a local Target tonight. Instructions are mediocre, and could be improved - for instance, why is it necessary to insert the rails under the mattress then shorten the rails by a peg? Unless your mattress is made of granite, you could easily get the right width by measuring, then wedging the mattress to the bottom of the rails. The way the instructions are stated you have to simultaneously hold your mattress up far enough to push in the peg with a screwdriver while also constricting the rail to fit into the next closest peg - not easy at all if you're installing without someone to help.
Also, the pegs themselves are of poor quality - one on our assembly would not slide back through the hole until I pulled it out of the rod, straightened, and reinserted it. If I'd left it as it was the assembly could shift with weight, negating the entire reason I purchased the product.
Finally, getting the fabric assembly around the rails was very difficult. The structure must be taut, which explains some of the difficulty - you don't want your child to get caught in loose fabric - but I'm not sure why this part doesn't come assembled from the manufacturer.
Haven't tested the assembled product yet. If there are flaws during use I'll post again.

Not What I Expected Dec 31, 2006

This rail is NOT easy to assemble; it is frustrating, as the directions are poor and the parts do not always fit together perfectly. On top of that, nothing on the box told me it would require assembly! The supporting rails extend underneath the entire width of the mattress, which makes it very cumbersome to install, remove, store, or transport. Once you get through the unclear instructions and actually get it put together, and then have someone help you install the awkwardly long supporting rails, it does function well. However, I decided to go back to my old-style rail.
