Features:
  • Patented nipple requires suction and compression, the same motions as breastfeeding

5Gives the little one a workout  Jun 29, 2011
By C. Schmidt
Though breast feeding is our ideal, the wife and I needed a solution for when I needed to take care of feedings. Initially, we used a set of Playtex drop-ins with low flow nipples, but would have to take the bottle away every few sucks to get our little lady used to not getting a lot all at once, as advised by a lactation consultant. We chose these because (according to the box) they are supposed to help encourage proper breast feeding technique. The difference between these and the Playtex was immediately obvious upon use. With the Playtex, our girl could suck down 2oz in a flash, while with the First Years bottles she would have to work at it for a good 10-15 minutes. In observing, she appeared to make the same level of effort and similar mouth movements to get the milk from the bottle as she did from the breast, which is exactly what we had been hoping for.

If she passes out before finishing off the bottle, all the milk sitting between the nipples goes back into the bottle with a couple of gentle squeezes of the outer nipple base. No wasted milk! To date, we have had zero leaks, as I pay special attention to make sure the nipples are aligned properly, seated in the sealing ring correctly, and the ring is securely tightened. With the Playtex, we had lost a fair bit of milk when the liner fell through the bottle housing.

5Perfect for our breastfed baby!  Nov 01, 2011
By Y. Rodriguez "Cooking is fun!"
My husband and I wanted to a make sure we'd have a way to feed our baby when I return to work and asked our lactation consultants to recommend a bottle. They recommended this one. We found it at babies-r-us and amazon and decided to buy one to try (as well as a tummy tipee just in case!). Our experience has been great!
After trying both we decided to stay with Breastflow because she seems to do better controlling flow, not chocking and alternating with the breast.
What we like: 1) our baby has no problem taking this bottle and the breast interchangeably 2) she does not choke when she is fed (which happened with the tummy tipee because the flow is too much for her) 3) they are super easy to clean - I actually throw away the disposable liner when she's done and clean the nipples and ring along with the pump in the medela microwave bag) 4) she does not get any more gas than she does at the breast and drinks to the last drop -no waste, no leaking) 5) she "latches" to the bottle the same way she does to the breast
What we don't like: so far we don't have anything to put here
We started to introduce the bottle to our baby at 6 weeks (only 1 a day and fed by the hubbs, which she also recommended so she associates breast with mommy and bottle with "not mommy") and even though she was so little she was ok with it from the initial times
She takes about 10-15 min to drink 3 oz, compared to nursing which for her averages 15-20 min, so we know the flow is ok.
I recommend them to nursing moms.

2Not so great and extra leaky!  Nov 26, 2011
By Theresa Hale
We bought these because we liked the idea of the dual nipple system to create less nipple confusion for our baby, but given the function of these bottles, I'm glad we only got one set. The two nipples with the additional sealing ring didn't create a good seal and we had multiple times where it either leaked, or the whole top just popped off (luckily when the baby was almost done feeding, I hate wasting any breastmilk). We tried it without the sealing ring, and while the top screwed onto the bottle easier, it leaked even more. We ended up switching to Dr. Brown's, at the recommendation of our lactation consultant, and have had no leakage problems, plus it has the anti-colic system that helps prevent air getting into baby's tummy. We've just started using them so we'll see if that is correct, but at least they don't leak!

5RECOMMENDED!  Jun 05, 2011

I could not find these Breastflow brand disposable bottles in any store except on Amazon. I started with the regular Breastflow bottles (nondisposable) and found that although my baby adjusted easily between being nursed directly and through the bottle, it was a bit of a hassle to keep cleaning the bottle and they also leaked from time to time if it was too full..in which i turned to these to try. I am VERY happy with these bottles, they definitely fixed the leaking problem with the extra ring on the bottom, now i can fill it even to the tippy top if i want to and it wont leak. You just switch out the plastic after it is used (I use the Playtex brand bags which costs about $8 for 100 pack) and your ready to go! You do still have to clean out the double nipple and the extra ring(keeps the bottle tight and prevents leaking) but that's easy..you have to also replace the inner blue nipple from time to time as it tears, well it happened to me at least, i know it was from sticking the big cleaning brush in it (you can get a double brush which has a tiny brush inside the handle of the big brush) which is helpful!

1Possibly the worst bottle ever??  Jun 16, 2011
By WorkingMom
Horrible waste of money. Bottles leak like crazy, inconvenient to clean, my baby develops colic with these bottles. I switched to a couple of other manufacturers and saw positive results instantly.

Customer no-service was not very helpful either offering impractical suggestions such as "every bottle part needs to be completely dry" before assembling back for use. Any mom or dad knows that when your baby is ready to feed you had better have a sterilized bottle ready even it comes straight out of your sterilizer. Raising a young baby is a hard enough job not to then have to deal with a ridiculous contraption that makes every feed that much more difficult. Try out other manufacturers... you will know what I mean!

This company does not offer a satisfaction guarantee. Retailers will not accept merchandise after it has been opened. I told customer no-service I'd make sure to get my message out to consumers - this is possibly the WORST bottle EVER!

PLEASE do not buy a set of anything in this brand.. try a single bottle out first. If you see leaks, or your baby is colicy get rid of this bottle immediately.
