Not the panacea I had hoped Jan 09, 2009
By Keri Larson

I really wanted to love this permanent place mat, because my son loves pushing his (fill in the blank) off the table, or whipping the entire place mat off the table magician-style (but without the cool trick of leaving the plates and silverware still in their setting), and I thought this would prevent said mischief. It does actually prevent liquid spills, and even discourages him from dumping everything in one fell swoop, but after one day he learned that he could simply pull the Stokke Table Top toward him and off the table (in conjunction with pushing off from the table in his Tripp Trapp, which allows him full room to drop anything). The suction cups are great for preventing anyone from lifting it perpendicular from the table, but offer zero resistance to a parallel pull--it slides like butter...
Also, the surface has already gotten scratched up from only a week's use (albeit not simple dining use). Granted, better the scratches appear on the plastic place mat than my wooden table, but for $89 I had hoped for something more durable against the mad banging and smashing of a 7-month-old. I doubt he's going to get any gentler in the next couple of years!

buy the Piggy Platter from Smarty Parents instead!! Aug 11, 2010

I've had the Stokke Table Top for 2 years & it works really well but the price is outrageous. I couldn't bring myself to drop nearly a $100 again for baby #2 & so spent alot of time on the web looking for a Stokke sale or some other alternative. Finally I found the Piggy Platter by Smarty Parents. Its under $[...] & is just as good if not better. Unfortunately, its not sold on Amazon, BabiesRUs, Target, etc. I had to order directly from Smarty Parents. [...]

VERY Disappointed - especially at this price point May 24, 2009
By Chris I agree completely with the prior review. I LOVE my Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair and hoped this tray would help prevent my table from getting beat up with the many times daily table banging, food spilling, and cleaning that comes with having a one year old.
Well, the tray slides around so easily making it pretty useless. One thing to point out, the tray does NOT slide on our granite countertops, but does slide on our finished wood table. So this may work for you if you have a perfectly sealed surface table. I did email the company for any suggestions and they said to make sure the suction cups were clean and sorry I wasn't happy.
Otherwise, do not use a knife on the tray as it will scratch. The instructions say it is not dishwasher safe, but the email I received from customer service said I could put it in the dishwasher (haven't tried).
Overall, just really disappointed.

This product is very expensive for what it is. What it is, is a piece of plastic wtih slightly raised edges that keeps your kid from eating directly off the table. It cannot be washed int he diswasher and it is very bulky to wash in the sink. I admit I like it betterthan having my child eat directly off the table, but the price is crazy for what it is and the reality is that the tripp trapp is just a very messy chair - even with this $100 piece of plastic.

Here's another idea Feb 25, 2012
By suzy m taylor I'll begin with a disclaimer; I didn't actually buy this product. I read all the reviews and with twins I couldn't stomach buying two at that price. But I needed something for the table now that my boys are starting finger foods. So I bought "Schildkraut Shower Suction Holders" for $12 for a set of three and then some cheap target trays. I spent a total of $20 for a tray that fits perfectly in my dishwasher. They stick (and I mean stick well!) to the table. My boys couldn't move it if they tried and they are attractive. It took me a while to figure this out so I'm sharing my research.
