5Great Baby Monitor!  Apr 20, 2009
By ARW
We had a Sony BabyCall with our first son and loved it!! We loved it so much the receiver was very well worn when we had our second son 28 months later. We were holding it together with a rubberband...and it was still working! (We had dropped it too many times. We were VERY rough on it and I doubt any other monitor would have held up as well.) When pregnant with our second son, we ordered a Graco dual monitor system to monitor both rooms. It did not measure up to the standard we had come to rely on with our Sony! (I will not get into all my issues with the Graco monitor.)

I ordered the Sony BabyCall with two receivers when our second son was a few months old. We use one receiver with the new monitor and the second receiver with our old monitor so we can effectively monitor both our sons' rooms. Works great. If both are sleeping, you do have to carry two monitors (but I was sleeping with two of the Graco receivers because they weren't reliable.) They are set on different channels and do not interfere with one another. The BabyCall is sensitive enough, that I could rely on only the monitor in our baby's room to hear our older son during naptime.

The positive things I rely on: 1) you can hear them breathing through this monitor it is so sensitive!; 2) the battery life; 3) range. It is as clear as if you were in the room...but, actually magnified.

The negative things that don't bother me: 1) so sensitive it will interfere w our mobile phones so we have to keep them separated; 2) so sensitive the receiver can sometimes scream at you if you aren't accustomed and walk too closely to your child's door while carrying it. Our first Sony would interfere with the microwave but I have not noticed it with this one and I frequently have both receivers in the kitchen (note: new microwave as well).

For me, the reliability and sensitivity far out weigh any interference issues!!

1Not good in large condo/apt buildings  Feb 22, 2010
By Scott Horwitz
My wife did a ton of research and came to the conclusion that this monitor was the one for us. Unfortunately, we hate the thing. Even with the adjusting of the channel to try to find a clear one, there is no use as there are too many signals criss-crossing this building. The monitor beeps and crackles all the time, even when you just walk passed. There is an alarm feature on the receivers so you are aware if the signal is not being received. Most annoying sound on earth and the alarm can go off if the dog is too close. If you use a cell phone anywhere near this thing, it has a conniption fit. You don't even want to know about the sounds it makes when the microwave is on. This was an expensive experiment and we will be getting a different monitor when we have the next kid.

DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU LIVE IN APARTMENT BUILDING.

3Good solid monitor, but...  Sep 10, 2009
By Brian S. Peters
The overall quality of this monitor is good. Very good sensitivity, and volume. You will definitely hear what is going on. The reception range is disappointing though. With a couple of walls in the way, it barely makes it down the hall. I have been using this for two weeks, but will probably be returning it once I find one that works better. Even with the voice activated mode, it makes a lot of static. Every time it loses it's link, it beeps and makes noise when it reconnects. We don't know if our baby made a little noise that triggered it, or if it was a lost connection. The parent units will operate portably on the rechargeable batteries, but they are rather large and clunky. Also, I was very disappointed to find that it doesn't have an accommodation in the nursery unit for batteries in case of power loss.

1Buy another monitor  Jan 23, 2009
By A. Rayan
I have never found the time or energy to write any review on anything. However, if I convince just one person to buy a different monitor, this is worth my effort. I have been extremely disappointed with it. It's range is much smaller than other monitors than I have used at my sister-in-laws or friend's houses. Not to mention, every time my cell phone rings, it causes loud interference noises that wake the baby. Also, it manages to click just as I'm falling to sleep and I'll have to get out of bed to rearrange it on my dresser just prefectly so it doesn't click all night. Please buy another monitor. I am on this website right now to buy a different monitor and to throw this thing away.

4Just One "Deficiency"  Jun 30, 2009
By Lance Rose
I am a parent of two toddlers and needed to replace an exceptionally good 900 MHz Fisher Price monitor (which has been discontinued) that performed wonderfully for nearly five years until it was dropped one too many times.

The Sony BabyCall does a outstanding job picking up the children's voices and movements while minimizing (likely by design) many background noises. This is probably a plus when monitoring an infant, but for keeping tabs on two active toddlers some background noises (i.e. a jiggling door knob) can be rather helpful. These other noises can still be heard, just not as prominently. This is the only "deficiency" that I have observed. I have had no range or static issues with this unit whatsoever.
Overall, the Sony BabyCall monitor is quite good and, considering that it comes with two receivers, it's an excellent value.

**As a sidenote, a week before purchasing the Sony, I ordered and returned the Graco Ultra Clear II 49mhz Baby Monitor--don't waste your time or money on that one, the sensitivity was horribly deficient.
