4not scratchy  Mar 07, 2009
By M.J. "McPeachy"
i almost didn't buy this cause i thought that it would be made poorly from the other review. I dont know what she was expecting. this is fine. its not suppose to make you want to cuddle in it! reminds me of an apron. steel is a nice color too. i will say that it is a thicker fabric than the original version of this.

5great way to nurse comfortably & discretely  Jun 17, 2009
By Terry - mom of two
I am so happy I bought this nursing cover. It makes it so much easier to nurse discretely and keep my baby from becoming distracted by things going on around us. It is very easy for me to take it out of the diaper bag and throw over my head while holding my baby. It took a little practice to figure out exactly how to position it, but once I did, I have absolutely no complaints about it (I find that putting it more toward the side that my daughter is nursing allows me better coverage and a better view of her rather than centering it on my body). Sometimes my daughter prefers to nurse while we are both lying down and this cover works perfectly for that position too. I would highly recommend this to any mother that is nursing her baby.

5Eco Hooter Hider  Feb 04, 2009
By K. Coveney
Really nice eco option for breastfeeding while out. I had really hoped to find more environmentally friendly options for this kind of product (bamboo, hemp, or linen) but this was the only one I could find where the whole cover is eco friendly, not just ordinary cotton lined with an eco friendly fabric.

It is perfect for my needs, is lightweight, and tucks easily into my small diaper bag. It isn't super soft, as pointed out in another review, but it doesn't need to be (I use super soft bamboo burp cloths).

5Thoughts on Scratchiness  Feb 26, 2011
By Sarah E Rodriguez
So, I was hesitant about buying this product after reading some reviews where people complained about the scratchiness. I did a little bit more research at the actual Bebe-au-Lait website before purchasing, and went ahead and ordered the Simple in Steel. After receiving it, I am more than happy with it, although have not actually put it to the test (nursing with it) yet since I haven't had my baby yet. I did not find it at all scratchy However, I think I have figured out at least somewhat why there is some discrepancy regarding the scratchiness. According to Amazon, all of the Simple Organic nursing covers are 100% organic cotton. This is NOT the case. The "Steel" and "Buttercup" colors are in 100% organic cotton. The "Raspberry" and "Peacock" colors, however, are 100% organic LINEN. This may account for some of the differences of opinion. Hope this can help some of you out there!

EDIT (Aug 18, 2011): Have now gotten to use my nursing cover, and LOVE it. Definitely stays put a lot better than the blankets I tried to use with my first! HA!! Try to pull THIS down, girlie! :)

5Discreet and Easy to Transport  Nov 05, 2010
By Johnna
I was debating between this and a hooter hider, but I really wanted a more discreet solid color fabric more than I wanted the pocket.. though I kind of wanted that pocket too, lol.. I wasn't at all interested in ruffles, so the discreet solid color won the argument. The other nursing covers draw too much attention to themselves and I feel awkward enough about breastfeeding in public (even if I am covered) without drawing attention to the fact any more than necessary. This cover does have a tiny little pocket on the inside bottom corner that is just big enough for a pacifier or a folded in half nursing pad.

I do recommend practicing at home to get comfortable with it, before using it in public. I figured out exactly how I wanted to use it to avoid getting flustered trying it for the first time in a situation that is already awkward for me. If you are using it with a newborn, you definitely want to practice, because its not going to be as easy as if you are trying to use it with an older baby.

I start by laying the baby on my lap with a burp cloth under her and where my breast is about to be (sometimes she spits out milk or spits up while eating). Then, I put the cover on and adjust it so that I'm comfortable with the coverage, and get myself ready. Then I use one hand under the cover to hold my breast as I guide her to it, while using the other hand outside of the cover to tuck some of the material up under her body before I bring her up to my breast, in order to create enough tension in the fabric to keep it from falling between us.

That last part is important if you have a newborn with latching problems because although you can look down through the opening at the top, the fabric will still fall between you and the baby, blocking your view if there is no tension to hold it straight. I need to be able to see my baby to guide her to my breast and to help her latch - in fact, the reason I originally decided to get a nursing cover instead of using a blanket is because I was using a nipple shield and I had to go to the bathroom to help her latch before I could cover her head with a blanket and go out in front of people. We aren't using the shield anymore, but I still need to see her to help her out, and I can't really do that with a blanket.

My favorite thing about this nursing cover is how easily it folds and rolls up to fit into the diaper bag or anywhere else. You could easily put a rubber band around it to hold it rolled up and just carry it with you somewhere, if you wanted to. It isn't soft at all (though it may get softer with washing), but as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't need to be.
