2Pros & cons from an unbiased parent  Mar 31, 2011
By Elizabeth M. Callahan II
There are so many "vine" reviews on these new free and clear diapers, which is a promotional program that is funded by companies to give free products to "vine" reviewers on Amazon so that the new items can have several reviews posted at the time of launch. As a parent, it's hard for me to trust opinions of those who have received the products for free. Isn't everything better when it's free? I can think of a lot of products that I would've rated higher if I hadn't had to spend so much money for them out of my pocket. How many negative reviews are given when the people writing them have been compensated with free products and the promise of more free products for writing the reviews? Just think about it. I'm not saying "vine" reviewers are lying, I'm just saying there is a skewed perception possibility. If I want truth, I find reviews by people who have paid their hard earned dollars so you can get an UNBIASED review - it's a bonus when the person reviewing has experience with the brand so they are aware of the changes and quality standards.

Well, today is your lucky day...
I AM a parent of diapered babies, I AM a long-time seventh generation product user, and I HAVE used a few packs of these free and clear diapers. I am NOT a "VINE" freebie reviewer - I put my pretty pennies to work to try these out and what follows is HONESTY, unbiased, pure and simple. Here are the pros & cons I found with these new "free and clear" diapers:

**It absorbs more because it has more SAP gel inside and less wood pulp, this is also why it is much thinner than previous versions. SAP is controversial with many parents in the diapering community, I'd suggest you research it to make up your own mind for your own child.

**We have had leaks at the tummy with our son with overnight use and blowouts can happen at the legs because the elastic doesn't have a long enough length to create a proper fit.

**The outside is not as soft and it looks like they are using less dye to make them brown because these are more tan in color. FYI - chlorine-free diapers are white from manufacture (hydrogen peroxide makes them white) but seventh generation dyes the diapers to make them "natural" colored - just read the package fine print.

**The sizing is smaller than most so you get more for your money with other brands that run larger (i.e. Earths Best, Bambo, Nature babycare) because your child can stay in a smaller size longer and smaller sizes come in packs of more diapers.

**There is an foul odor with these diapers, right out of the package and when the baby pees. This is not a problem with other diapers, not eco-friendly or otherwise, not sure why these ones smell but they do.

**I'm not sure what the other reviewer is referring to with the sticky tabs, there is no sticky part on these diapers - it is like a type of velcro but not sticky like most other diapers. It works good for fastening, just the same (doesn't stick to skin).

**I wish there was a size printed on the diaper so I could easily sort out the diapers when my baby changes sizes and I have leftovers to give away.

Overall, I liked the previous version of these diapers best. For someone who is using a chemical doused traditional brand, I'm sure these are a step up. But for the rest of us who were already trying to be more responsible in choosing our baby products, I think this is a step down.

I am not a fan of the increased dusty sand stuff (SAP) that provides the absorption in these. If you happen to tear a dry diaper and inhale the dust, you get a really sore throat from the stuff. I don't like that being on my baby. I will use another brand from now on, I feel like I gave these a fair shot.

I hope my truthful review helps you decide if these are right for your baby!

5Still love them!  Jun 20, 2011
By K. Alvord "Lillan"
I have no idea what other people are talking about not liking the new version of this diaper or what the massive outcry and fuss is all about. I suspended my subscription after reading all the bad reviews here (I get 3 boxes x 4 at once, since I have twins, and didn't want to take any chances). I went to the store and bought a small pack to test out, much more expensive than Amazon. First, I expected a foul smell. I opened up the pack - and...nothing. Then, I expected worse performance. Again - nothing... I honestly cannot tell the difference between the old and the new version of this diaper, even side by side unless I TRY HARD. Use with confidence is my verdict. And for the record, I am not getting any free diapers (where do I sign up?), but I have used many brands and kinds of diapers over the years and this one gets my vote.

1Used to be great, now they are poor.  Apr 04, 2011
By Jw
Why change a good thing? These diapers are no longer as absorbent as they used to be. Big problem. Will need to change brands now. We used to love these diapers. Why do all company's get cheap on us once they become successful?

5Excellent absorbency and all around great product  Apr 14, 2012
By McCarth "aka sLiM sHaDy"
First I would like to start off by saying I receive no gain from telling the truth about this product or any other product I review. While I am a vine member yes, I am told to write the truth about things, which I do. I give many of my vine reviews and regular reviews 1 star if it is well deserved. So anybody on here that thinks that vine members get any kick backs of some sort from amazon or from the manufacturer itself by writing only positive reviews are sadly mistaken. I also think that it is very ignorant and rude to make such accusations and I personally take offense to it! I am a normal consumer like everybody else. I have written reviews for many products long before amazon invited me into their vine program. I am an everyday consumer and I base my purchases on the reviews of other consumers just as much, so there is no way I would EVER lie for anybody or anything!! I think it is very important to write reviews and I am very thankful that people do because it really helps with me with my decision making.

With that being said I would like to give my unbiased opinion of this product like I do with so many other products on here and other websites.

I chose to pick these to test because they are now made much so differently then when my kids were little. I gave them to my best friend who has a little one in training and the results are from what I observed.

While I have no basis to compare these to the older version that 7th Gen used to make that people speak of, I can only speak of the product that I got to view in today's market.

I think these are awesome and I love the fact that they are eco-friendly and dye free. They are made well and are very durable. They have excellent absorbency. Not like when my kids were little. If their diaper was filled, the gel would come out of the diaper and bead up everywhere. That doesn't happen as far as I could see. They are now so compact and less bulky than what I remember. They are a little more money than your normal pull-up diapers, but I believe the cost is reflected in the product. I think these are great and a must have for your training toddlers.

5Excellent Traing Pants  Mar 06, 2012
By Jeanne Anderson
These Training Pants are all they are advertised to be. They are almost too diaper like, yet my grandaughter has taken to them quite well and understands they are just a safety need, so to speak.

I am happy with this product and will buy more, if needed. Hopefully they won't be needed if all goes well with the potty training.
