When, as an adult you are having trouble sleeping, what's one of the first things you think about? Comfort right? You want to make sure that your bed is comfortable, your room is warm enough, your pillows soft enough. I would think that would be one of the first things you think about for your children too right? Plus, with kids you need to not only think about whether they are getting a good nights rest, but whether they are safe in the room and the bed by themselves at night.
Moonlight Slumber has products that are designed to cover both of those issues, comfort and safety. The company was kind enough to send me one of their Little Dreamer Mattresses for review. The first thing I noticed was the quality of the mattress. The one I received is all foam. It's very firm which is good because babies need to sleep on a firm mattress surface. The outside covering is a soft smooth high quality fabric.
It has several advantages to a cheaper discount store mattress:
Double Sided Foam (Extra Firm Infant Side and Firm Toddler Side)
Non-toxic medical grade nylon fabric cover
Stitched Seams
The price is a little higher than an average crib mattress but I think it's affordable and reasonable considering the comfort and safety advantages it has over a normal mattress. I would rather spend a little more an an exceptional mattress for my baby than a spending it on the decorative details of a crib or nursery decor.

This crib mattress is great. Very lightweight, which will hopefully make late night crib sheet changes easier. I also like that there are two levels of firmness. One side is very firm for infants, while the other is softer for older babies. The two sides are clearly marked by label which is which. The mattress arrived quickly, in a large box, and wrapped in plastic, so we were able to put it right in the crib. This mattress is also recommended by the Baby Bargains book - another must purchase for first time parents!

Baby hasn't arrived yet and won't be using it for a little while, but I feel great about the mattress. I love that it's dual sided for extra long use. Since we bought a convertible crib, it just made sense to buy a dual mattress. Fits great in our Babyletto crib.

I love how lightweight the mattress is - makes for easy sheet changes. The infant side is extremely firm, which is great. It even allowed us to prop up one end with a phone book (son needed to sleep on an incline when he was sick with a respiratory infection). He isn't old enough yet to use the toddler side, so I can't comment on that one.

This is hands-down the best crib mattress out there. We purchased a well-reviewed spring mattress for our little one, and when it came, I just felt uncomfortable with how much my baby sank into that mattress when we laid him on it. Then a friend recommended the Moonlight Slumber, and I can't say enough good things about it. The foam is soft, but a great firmness for a newborn. If you are concerned about the expense, don't be. It will more than pay for itself in giving you worry-free nights of sleep (especially if you're a first-time parent), and it is one of the few products for baby that you use every day, multiple times a day.
