Melissa & Doug Rainbow Stacker Sep 06, 2011
By maryk We purchased this toy for our Granddaughter (we purchased it because of the reported high quality, non-toxic nature of the Melissa & Doug toy line) but were extremely upset to see that while she was playing with it, little yellow chips of paint were coming off. We immediately took it away from her, which made her very unhappy because she loves the toy. The small size makes it great for her little hands, but we cannot have her playing with a toy that has paint chipping off! This is the 2nd Melissa and Doug toy we have purchased that was defective. We are obviously not at all happy with the quality of their products.

great toy Jan 09, 2011
By mckcali My 1 yr old daughter loves this toy. I think because it is little enough, while being safe, for her little hands and such fun colors, she just really enjoys stacking the different sizes/colors on the wooden stacker. I was surprised how much fun she has with a simple stacker, because she wasn't really into the other bigger plastic ones (some with sounds) we had bought of her before. For the price, too, it's a really good deal.
Traditional stacker but pieces are small Apr 16, 2012
By one hot mama I wish they made the "rounds" just a little larger. I am sure that is why it is rated for 18 months and up. My baby is 7 1/2 months and we purchased this toy to play with while under our supervision until she is the appropriate age. I feel like if the rounds were just a little bigger it would be perfect for younger and older kids alike.
Quality Wooden Stacker Dec 23, 2011
By katellis06 The "Melissa and Doug Rainbow Stacker" is a quality wooden stacking toy that helps teach coordination, size relations and color. I bought this toy for my two daughters, now 1 and 2, and it has been a steady favorite. This toy is ideal for toddlers. When they aren't stacking the rings, they wear them as jewelry or cook them as "apples" and "eggs" for their dolls. The bright colors are easy to identify, and I have used it to teach colors effectively to the 2 yo. As for quality, the wooden base is well-balanced, easily standing up for stacking. Fortunately, it's not so heavy as to become a WMD. The wooden rings slide into place much more easily than plastic varieties. Because the dowel is a single width, the rings can be stacked in any order. My daughter became frustrated with our old version that forced them to put the rings on from largest to smallest. To address the issue of paint chipping: Yes, over time the paint has worn and scratched. Such is the way with wooden toys unless you coat them with serious polyurethane. Personally, I would rather my children chew on the non-toxic paint than on the chemically-imbibed chip proof stuff. If it bothers you that the paint wears, aerosol polyurethane is available from any hardware store. Simply treat the toy before it enters the play room. In my experience, the Rainbow Stacker is a hardy, educational toy that continues to entertain my children.
