No problems with this great toy. Dec 31, 2011
By Jewel B. I have 20 month old twins that have no trouble at all playing with the penguin and duck push toys by Melissa & Doug. They can push and pull and the penguin, especially, is easy to use and flaps it readily flaps its wings, making a soft clacking noise. This is a solid wood bird with solid wood rod and ball. Of course, it's going to feel heavy. People aren't used to seeing classic, hand-made inspired toys anymore so they give it low ratings. Also, all toys require supervision. A baby can throw or swing around any baby-safe toy and hurt himself or others. To give this toy a low rating for that reason is absurd.
With a little practice and showing them how, which took just a few minutes to master, my babies were having great fun with these toys and actually head for them before they play with the plastic toy sets. They also look so happy and confident when they play with these because their efforts bring about the reward of seeing the wings flap. Sounds simplistic, but you should see their faces. It's a confidence booster for them. I am so happy I bought these and feel like these will last a good, long time,as I'm hoping to pass these on to the next generation.
nice toy Jan 13, 2011
By Terina Very nice toy but not easy tu push by my 14 month old...still she loves the penguin, she comes and picks it up and pulls it behind her. I had to teach her how to push it...guess its for a bit older children...

Durable & cute, but maybe not for tall toddlers Mar 14, 2011

My son is on the tall side and the angle of the handle seems to be better for shorter kids, but he still loves to play with it. He just ends up carrying it around rather than pushing it all the time.

Way too short, way too heavy--can be hazardous Dec 05, 2011

"Lost again"
My 13-month old is only in the 25th percentile, and this toy is still too short for him. I find this toy to be quite useless because 1) it is impossible to push--my son even tripped over it several times 2) it is very heavy, which makes it hazardous--unable to push it, my son (short but strong) grabs it and swirls it around. When I tell him not to do that, he starts to pull the toy. But isn't this supposed to be a "push-toy"? Cute penguin, so would have been a lot of fun if it served its purpose.
The design could be improved by changing the handle to an extendible one for varying heights and by using a lighter material. Sorry, this is going back to the seller.
