Finally, a natural fiber, snap front footie sleeper for older baby Dec 31, 2011
By Sander W. Koning This is a pretty expensive sleeper, so I expected the sun, the moon AND 5 stars. As you see above, I gave only 3 stars.
The material feels nice, stretchy and silky, better than all but the most premium cotton, and isn't that hideous synthetic fleece that most sleepers are made of. However, it isn't especially warm, so I end up putting baby in one of those sleep sacks when using this sleeper (it's winter). The feet are fleece lined, but I wish there was an option to get fleece lining in the whole sleeper. The washing instructions really irritate me.....wash delicate and dry flat!! Hah, there is nothing delicate about what a baby can do to a sleeper overnight. If the label says it can't go in the washer and dryer, either it won't get used, or it will go in the washer and dryer with everything else and damn the consequences. The second time this sleeper was washed, it accidently went in the dryer under medium and came out okay. This company does "girl patterns" and "boy patterns" which I know is the way it goes for most kids clothes, but a few more patterns that are cute for "humans" would be nice. No one buys this sleeper without hoping it will work for the next kid, whether yours or the neighbors down the street.
The design: It is hard to find one piece sleepers in natural fabrics for toddlers, so I appreciate how old their one piece sleeper line goes. I also like the fold-overs for the hands. Baby thinks pinching us is great fun and these save us from the wee pincers. Also helpful on those days you forgot to trim their fingernails. The fabric is very thin though and won't provide much warmth, especially once they suck on their hands and get the fabric wet. What a 6 month old baby needs in a footie sleeper is NOT what an 18 month old needs. A redesign would have been appreciated. The feet have embroidered traction pads that don't provide much grip at all for walkers. The knees could really use a little extra padding for crawlers and babies who sleep with their tush up-in-the-air. Once your child starts sleeping longer periods at night, most caregivers put their baby in what we call the "superdiaper" that provides extra absorbancy so the baby can go all night without a diaper change. These tend to be bulkier diapers, and I notice that the snaps in the groin area gap when a thicker diaper is on. A stretchy panel to provide some give in this area wouldn't go amiss. Speaking of the snaps, I wish they were one size larger, they are so small they are kind of hard to get a hold of. I like these snaps better than any zippers though.
Super-soft & great for temperature-control, but 6-12 month size can be a bit awkward. Apr 29, 2012
By Brazilian Jazzaholic! My 9 month-old baby girl was already a huge fan of the Kicky Pants coveralls (playsuits), so I decided to buy a couple of these footies for her to sleep in. The quality is everything you would expect from Kicky Pants. The PJs are made of super-soft bamboo viscose and lycra, so they're comfortable against baby's skin, and they actually seem to get softer each time I wash them. And due to the stretchy lycra, they've got lots of "give," so they move around with baby and aren't constricting at all. The temperature-regulating ability of these footies is wonderful as well. My little-one loves sleeping in footed pajamas, but with summer almost here, I was concerned that she might get too hot in the fleece or cotton footies that she'd slept in during the winter months. Because these Kicky Pants footies are made of bamboo viscose, they keep my baby a few degrees cooler in warmer temperatures, and wick any moisture (sweat) away from her skin.
These footies would be just about perfect, were it not for the somewhat awkward 6-12 month size. This is a pretty wide age range for baby clothing, especially at a stage when many babies experience growth spurts in weight and/or height. My almost-10-month-old is on the petite side for weight, but she's of about average height, and the 6-12 month sized pajamas were super-long on her. I'm talking 2-3 inches of excess material in the legs and arms! The width fits her just fine, but the PJs are so long that she trips over them when she crawls and I have to roll up the sleeves so she doesn't chew on them. Needless to say, she can't sleep in these footies, since they come with a warning tag saying that they must fit baby snugly in order to meet flame resistance requirements, since they aren't treated with (toxic) chemical flame-retardants. (That's a big plus in my view, and one of the reasons I bought these PJs in the first place). So I put the 6-12 month size in storage for now, and purchased these footies in the 3-6 month size instead. Well, guess what? They're too short on her!
Perhaps my baby girl is at that "in between" stage where she's too short for the larger size, but too tall for the smaller one. But as I said above, 6-12 months is a major transition stage for many babies, so I'd be surprised if my little-one is the only baby in this predicament. Perhaps Kicky Pants could consider making these PJs in 6-9 month and 9-12 month sizes, instead of going for such a wide 6-12 month age range. Until that happens (if it ever does), the 6-12 month pajamas are best suited to tall, lean babies only. Otherwise, you can't beat these footies for comfort and quality. B+
Excellent for layering Jan 05, 2012

These footie suits are very soft, and they are lightweight, almost like baby silk longjohns, which make them excellent for layering under other clothes in cold weather. I think they are too thin to really work as an outer garment. But under other clothes, they work beautifully, and you don't have to worry about gaps or lost socks. The 3-6 mo is still slightly big on my 4-month-old daughter who weighs about 12-13 lbs.
