Improved design nice May 15, 2011
By Busy Mama I ordered 3 of these because my toddler still likes using these and soon I will have another self-feeding toddler. The old design had many complaints by other reviewers (pieces don't stay together or are difficult to put back together) but I just wanted to let others know that the white piece on the bottom of the plate is now STUCK ON the plate so it does not come apart. Now, I purchased 3 more thinking that the pieces would come apart as I only use the top 2 pieces anyway before, so the bottom piece stuck on was a surprise to me. At first I was not pleasantly surprised, but now that my son has used it a few times with the plate sucked on to his place mat I'm happy that it comes stuck on. The top piece is still challenging to put back onto the plate, but with practice it's not so bad!
My only "problem" is that Amazon does not allow us to pick the colour. I have 2 sons, and of the 3 I ordered, I got 2 pink sets!

Loved the curved rim Jul 30, 2009
By mlpaqu01 I love this product. Unlike the other reviewers, I don't use the suction cup. I don't have a problem with my son leaving his plate/bowl on his tray (he is 19 months). My son struggled with getting food on his spoon and the curved rim helped him immensely. He used to use his hands to help put the food on his spoon/fork, but after two meals with the plate he has figured out that he doesn't need to anymore. A matter of fact, he no longer needs my help to feed himself at all. I can give him his plate and spoon and finish doing the dishes without worrying about messes. I would highly recommend this product if you are looking for dinnerware that will help your child learn how to use a spoon/fork without the help of others or their fingers.

total waste Jul 12, 2010
By janis townsend yes, this is a waste of money. only 5+ dollars, but it could be 5 dollars saved or better spent on another product that works. my 12month old son barely touched the bowl and it came off the base and was in 3 pieces in 3 seconds. I too got it for the suction base, but that does not work. I'll be returning it, if I can.

Don't waste your money Sep 07, 2007

The main reason I bought this product was for the plate with the suction base. First of all, the rubber suction part comes off the plate (presumably for washing and/or for using the plate without suction), and it is next to impossible to put it back on. Second of all, the suction doesn't stick. I have tried everything, including adding moisture, and that works for about 10 seconds or until my child touches the plate at all. The plate itself is fine, and the utensils are fine, but I already had those things--I wanted a plate with a suction base. I am extremely disappointed and feel like I wasted my money.

plate doesn't stay on the suction cup Jan 19, 2012
By MR S D LAWRENCE Once I got the suction ring on the plate (really fiddly!) I thought we'd be in business. The suction ring stuck to the tray really well, I gave it a tug and seemed fine. Then I put my 10 month old in front of it. He whipped the plate off the suction ring in seconds - food everywhere although not all food was lost. Trying to get the plate and suction ring back together again with food on the plate however...forget it. You could dirty another plate while you put the thing back together again but by the time you get that done the food will be cold and your baby may be asleep in the high chair. The riser doesn't stay on well either. Complete waste of money! My son did love the spoon though - hence a generous 1 star. Really annoying product that doesn't work. Gerber should be ashamed.
