breastfeeding moms beware! Feb 21, 2011
By K. Divers This pacifier gave my son nipple confusion - at the "mature" age of almost 3 months, exclusively breastfed. Before, I'd given him the NUK orthodontic, which is similar in shape, just a little thicker, and while his latch was never great, he was still doing okay breastfeeding. Then I switched to this product (Dr. Brown's) because it is thinner and I thought it to be better for his oral development. He immediately clamped down on the nipple more than before, and it only got worse every day. It took me four days and raw nipples to realize it was the pacifier! It got his mouth so used to an almost closed position while sucking that he was forcing my breast into the same shape - VERY PAINFUL! My first son never had nipple confusion, so I didn't take the problem seriously, but this experience made me realize it does exist.
I went and got the "Soothie" (by The First Years or by Philips Avent) and noticed improvement at the very next nursing session. It took him a while to get used to its new nipple shape (which is actually exactly how you want it to be for nursing), but he did accept it after some struggling and his latch is now better than ever.
There are other nipple-shaped pacifiers, such as the Playtex "Baby Binky Most Like Mother", but while the Soothie gets wider towards the base, those models get more narrow - which is what you don't want for breastfeeding. However, they look much nicer than the Soothie, so I might give them a try for when we go out.
The bottom line: If you experience nipple pain and your baby is using this pacifier, don't hesitate to throw it out. There are much better alternatives on the market.

Great pacifier for our newborn Sep 18, 2011
By Joshua Goodspeed We tried a variety of pacifiers from a variety of brands before purchasing these pacifiers from Dr. Brown's. Our daughter loves these because they don't cause her to gag and they sit in the same place that our finger would when curled up toward the roof of her mouth.

It works! Jun 20, 2011
By Shea My son is 6 months old and I can count on one hand the number of times he has taken a pacifier. My mother in law bought these and I thought, "Well, I'll try it but it won't work." When we introduced the Dr. Brown pacifier he seemed to like it instantly. The other night after fussing on and off for 1 hour when I was trying to put him to sleep for the night I found the magic pacifier. I popped it in, he calmed down, and was asleep in a couple minutes. I definitely recommend this pacifier to moms out there!

Great pacifiers Nov 23, 2010
By Ldrehman My son loves the Doctor brown pacifiers. He will not take any other one. These seem like they are more sturdy than the other brands. The ring on the pacifier is also smaller than the other brands so he can hang on to this one really good. The other brands he can hardly get his little fingers around. These are simply the best.

Tried a few different pacifier's, this is the first one we could get him to use, still not sure if that is a good thing (lol), as it seems he is using it more and more each day.
