5Happier baby!  Jun 14, 2002
By Sandy L. Chung "lee_sandy"
My baby has reflux and extra gas just makes him completely miserable. We got these bottles when he was 3-weeks old and they really do make a difference! I'm a pediatrician, so I was a skeptic when I read that the bottle claimed to reduce gas/colic. But I think I'm convinced! At the very least, it makes it easier for him to eat since there is no negative pressure created from suction... the food just flows! Thus, the baby swallows less air from the having work so hard to get food. If your baby has reflux or is very gassy, this bottle is definitely worth a try!

5LOVE THEM!!  Jun 11, 2003
By Elizabeth S. "elizh77"
I bought these bottles on a lark. I had read good things about them, but when I went to buy them at my Babies R Us, the only ones I could buy were the wide mouthed bottles. These bottles have a wider nipple that is shaped more like the breast. My son is primarily breast fed, but he has had no problems with these bottles when I don't feed him myself. I started giving him a few ounces of water at 2 weeks old, and he immediately took to these bottles. At one month, I tried to give him a six ounce Platex VentAir bottle after my Babies R Us was out of the larger Dr. Browns bottles. He refused to take to the smaller nipple. I suggest that you do use the wide mouth Dr. Browns bottles, but they are not available online.

I have not had a problem cleaning them at all. The only problem I have had comes when I do give him formula. The instructions say not to shake it in the bottle, so I usually stir it instead. One reviewer mentioned that when you add water, you go over the "Do not fill above this line" mark. I avoid this by measuring my water in a separate bottle, then I add about half the water, stir, then the other half. That has eliminated any problem regarding that mark.

I strongly recommend this product!

5NEW MOMS- TRY THESE FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Aug 01, 2002

I have tried Avent, Ventaire, Platex Nursers, Evenflo, and Gerber and let me tell you Dr. Brown's bottles are THE BEST by far.

My baby was bottle fed from the start and he could not get good suction on the wide nipples that are so popular right now. Therefore, he was swallowing a TON of air and spitting up constantly and always struggling every time I would feed him.

I tried these bottles as a last resort because they are more expensive and have more pieces to clean than other bottles, but it was WORTH every dime and the small amount of extra time to clean. (there are two extra pieces to throw into the dishwasher basket)

My child is relaxed and enjoys his feedings now. He has signifigantly reduced spit up and gas. Isn't it worth the extra time and money to have a happy baby? I recommend that you try these bottles FIRST and save yourself the time of having to switch later. You get what you pay for with these bottles! Another plus is that there are 3 different types of nipples (flex, regular and wide) and 2 types of bottles, wide mouth and regular so you are not limited to one particular type of bottle!

5These are a lifesaver!  Jul 02, 2003

I started using the Avent bottles because they claimed to reduce gas and spitting up. As a first time mom, I wanted to make sure we started on the right foot. From the beginning my son would cry after every bottle, if not during the bottle, and he would be soaked with milk that he spit out of his mouth during the feeding. It seemed as if he hardly got any milk at all, because what wasn't on the burp cloth was spit up shortly after the feeding. I had to give him anti-gas drops after every feeding for weeks. I finally decided that we needed to change bottles, and tried Dr. Brown's. He's been using the bottles for one week, and it's been amazing. He hardly burps, never cries after feedings, all of the milk gets swallowed, and he hasn't spit up yet. Maybe these bottles aren't right for every baby, but if a baby is having problems like my son was, it's worth giving these bottles a chance. It could make all the difference in the world.

5A BLESSING!!!  Jun 04, 2003

My daughter was born 4 weeks early and when we tried her on formula we found she was allergic to the milk protein, which led us to a specialized formula (Nutramigen). On the formula is states for colic babies and babies with allergies. Nobody ever said she was a colic baby and we really didn't experience any of the colic symptoms with her at first. The formula is supposed to help with that. At about 4wks after she was born she started with what I called the violent feedings. She would scream out of control, didn't want her bottles, had trouble sleeping and would cry in pain when she passed gas. I tried Avent bottles, Platex Vent Aire, switching nipples, switching feeding positions, nothing seemed to work. I felt so helpless and at a loss of what to do for my daughter. After 7wks at home I returned to work and talked with a co-worker whose daughter is 2wks younger than mine and he stated he had the same problem and the tried Dr. Brown's bottles, that they were a little more money but well worth it. That day I went and purchased a few bottles and went home to try them out. At the first feeding she didn't like the new nipple so I tried it again at the next feeding and she took right to it and slept for 51/2 hours straight. I didn't know about the wide neck bottles at the time or I would have tried those first. Where I purchsed her first bottles they only carried the standard. Now Dr. Brown's is the only bottle we use and feedings are so wonderful and my daughter is so much happier and sleeps 6-7 hours already at 21/2 months. I wish that the hospital or even my doctor could have suggested these bottles to me, it could have prevented a lot of pain for her and a lot of sleepless nights for me. I don't see a lot of advertising for Dr. Brown's bottles but I will use nothing else and I tell all the mother's to be I know all about them. Theses bottles are a blessing.
