Crib can convert to toddler bed without this additional piece, but this item provides a bit of extra security to child when first sleeping in the toddler bed. Toddler guard attaches to crib and provides a small "half side" which can prevent toddler from rolling out of bed. Made from wood and finished in mahogany to match your Coventry crib.
