5Great Product  Feb 27, 2003

I love this toy box. It's very big inside and is made of quality components. I was able to assemble it myself fairly simply, even though I was six months pregnant. The "barrel" top gives the piece some character and makes it suitable for a nicer living room as well as kid's room. The best part is that the top hinges are designed so that the top will stay open so there is no fear of getting little fingers caught on a closing lid. I would highly recommend this product.

5Great style  May 09, 2003
By chicago mom
When my husband and I were registering for our baby last year, I knew that I wanted a toybox, though I really wasn't crazy about the plastic toyboxes that seemed to be everywhere. There was only one of these wooden toyboxes in the store, and I immediately fell in love with it. True, some of the plastic toyboxes may be a little bigger (and cheaper), but the wooden toybox matched the decor of the baby's room, plus it's very classy, not at all gaudy like some baby items can be.

It's been nine months now, and I still love it. The design is very attractive, and even better, it fits a lot of toys. The toybox has a hinge so the lid won't slam down on tiny fingers. If you look at the picture of the box, you can see there are openings between the lid and the bottom half of the box so if there *were* fingers still on the box if it were closed, fingers wouldn't get stuck (this doesn't apply to the two corners however). Some things that may cause you to reconsider: the box does have sharper corners than a plastic box may have, it is made out of wood after all (the only thing I didn't consider beforehand). However, the finish is smooth.

I've been very happy with this toybox. Hopefully my nine month old will think the same thing once he's older.

3Vendor made good & sent correct parts  Jun 05, 2011
By Wobbles
Don't be fooled by the picture! It doesn't come with the correct parts. You have to talk to the manufacturer to get the right pieces.

You are supposed to get:
- 1 pre-drilled lid
- 1 front board
- 1 rear board
- 2 side boards
- 2 support bars
- 1 thin board
- 2 hinges
- 1 safety hinge
- wood screws, nuts and bolts

Instead, you receive:
- 1 lid (not pre-drilled)
- 2 front boards (neither are pre-drilled. I guess the rear board is pre-drilled?)
- 2 side boards
- 1 thin board
- 2 "short" support bars (when you assemble the toy chest, they slide back and forth. Supposed to match length of side boards.)
- 2 flimsy hinges (replaced; see below).
- 1 safety hinge that doesn't work (see below).
- wood screws, nuts and bolts. The wood screws and bolts strip easily with minimal pressure applied to them.

The boards aren't pre-drilled for the wood screws; only for the bolts. You have to look at the picture to guess where to put the screws. The supplied instructions show you where to put them, but a unit of measurement would have been helpful (eg. x inches from edges).

The 2 brass hinges supplied are fairly weak. I went to Home Depot to get stronger ones to match the weight of the lid.

The wood screws strip easily. Got better ones at Home Depot.

The bolts strip easily. Couldn't find them at Home Depot, so I did my best to try to screw them into the toy chest.

The safety hinge doesn't work. It's really stiff. I attached it thinking it would bend with the lid, but it ripped out of the wood when I opened the toy chest.

I contacted the vendor and they sent me the correct parts. Apparently their website is set up for mistakes like this. I guess it happens often. Now the chest works as intended.

1missing parts, poor construction  Feb 12, 2011
By Booker
My mother purchased 2 of these toy chests for my kids for Christmas. The natural colored one was nearly impossible to put together because the holes did not line up correctly so that the screws would fit in properly. Then we opened the second (espresso colored) chest to put it together and it is missing all of the screws, hinges, and barrel nuts. Even the website that you go to to order new parts isn't set up correctly. You click the button to go to that page, and it sends you to a place to shop for new products. I had to practically jump through hoops to find the actual place to order the parts. NOt to mention that the espresso colored toy chest lid had several splits in the wood. I would NEVER suggest to ANYONE to order from this company brand.

1Poorly designed and constructed  Feb 02, 2011
By N Rossbach "nenaghgirl"
This toy box is cheap, cheaply made and poorly constructed. I just tried to put mine together and after several hours have given up. The dowels/screws do not match up and unless we redrill the holes, it just isn't going to work. It is a pig and a poke - some folks apparently didn't have difficulty, but with such poorly designed/chinese manufacturing, there is no quality control. The wood is flimsy and easily marked, and the finish gives of a toxic smell. Overall, I would not recommend this item and plan on returning it.
