Beautiful, but Bassinet Mattress Unsafe Nov 17, 2010
By Laura Twilley I was so excited about the Argington Bam Bassinet and Crib set because it is versatile, supposedly eco-friendly and beautiful. However, I do have some serious complaints relating to health and safety.
One issue is the strong chemical smell that comes from the packaging. It was overwhelming and didn't seem healthy for me as a pregnant woman to be breathing in. I emailed Argington and this was their response: "As for the chemical smell is completely normal. The packaging makes it seem like there is a toxic odor from the furniture item, but once the furniture is removed from the packaging, and let to air out properly, there should be no issue whatsoever." I found this response dissatisfying especially for a company who touts their eco-friendliness. But this is the least of my concerns at this point.
My biggest concern about the set is the safety of the bassinet mattress. It does not properly fit the bassinet frame, and this is a safety hazard because a baby can become trapped between the frame and the mattress. See the CPSC standards: [...]. It slips and slides around with about an inch or two of give. I sent this video to Argington, [...], and they said because I washed and dried the sheets, the shrunken sheets made the foam mattress scrunch up. Then I sent them this, [...], to show them that the foam mattress is cut too small for the bassinet. They then sent me another mattress, pad and sheet set. As I expected, the new unwashed set did not properly fit the bassinet either, see here: [...]. At this point, Argington told me that I had to deal with the issue directly with Amazon.
I was truly disappointed that I spent so much money, time and research trying to find the right product only to discover that it isn't safe because of the lack of a "tight fit". I do love the beauty of the set and it isn't realistic for me to return, so I had a custom mattress, pad and sheets made at [....]. If you do decide to purchase this set, I would recommend buying a mattress from them: [...]. They have the template that I sent in; and hopefully they will have saved the pattern. I hope you this review will help you make in informed decision before purchasing this product.

Design Flaw Sep 15, 2011
By R. Dorr I was very excited to order this crib for our second child as our first child was still using a Stokke and I felt that this was just as attractive and had the multi-purpose aspect as well. But a couple of months in the legs on each end of the BAM crib are splitting off from the base rail of the crib. I think this has happened when we move the crib to vacuum underneath etc - the legs are not sturdy enough to cope with being moved on carpet - they are too flimsy - in my mind a serious design flaw. We are returning the crib to Amazon. Amazon's customer service has been flawless.
Poorly designed. Wooden leg-posts prone to cracking. Jan 08, 2012
By MammaJamma I had a similar experience to the reviewer, above, who wrote of the wood splitting on the legs of this crib. Unless you can guarantee that you will always have a second person around the house to assist you with lifting and moving this crib, then it will be very difficult for you to move the crib (for the purpose of vacuuming, grabbing toys that may have fallen behind the crib, etc.) without cracking the leg posts. The legs of my crib began cracking within the first year of use, and we only rarely moved the crib, and only for the above-referenced reasons. In the bassinet mode, there is no problem, as the bassinet stands on wheels, and is easy to move about the house (actually, quite an amazing function). However, since there are no wheels in the full-size crib mode, and the crib, in this mode, stands on inflexible wooden posts, moving the crib about, without lifting it entirely off of the floor, results in pressure being placed on the legs, and cracking resulting from that pressure. I would not recommend this crib to anyone, and as a side note, the store from which we purchased the crib no longer carries the model (or any Argington cribs).
Nightmare crib Nov 29, 2011
By NYCMama This crib has officially broken twice on us! The first time we had to wait 8 weeks for a replacement part, not even anew crib, and now we are told e company is aware of the design flaw. Both times the leg split off from the crib when we moved it. They redesigned the crib under the bam bam collection with big giant wheels but it looks awful ...like a cage! I am so disappointed. I loved the look and functionality of this crib. What a headache. Don't buy this crib!!
great bassinett Apr 21, 2011
By sandy klein the bassinet/crib was delivered quickly and in perfect condition. make sure you have space to store the crib pieces while the bassinet is in use-huge box! the hardware was high quality and took about 30 minutes to set up. I didn't think the wheels were going to work on our thick carpeting, but no problem and easy to wheel around. the mattress does seem a little small for the space as another reviewer mentioned, especially after washing the sheets. this product does not come with the waterproof bassinet mattress cover, needs to be purchased separately, but does come with 2 organic bassinet sheets. The best part of this crib is Argington, the company. I had all these requirements (VOCs, etc.) in a crib set and they were prompt and forthcoming in all their responses. so although the bassinet mattress is made from polyeurathane (as all other brands are too), and I could have purchased a natural one for $100 more, I felt reassured that this company does not use toxic flame retardants in their mattress. thanks argington for a great deal on a healthy product!
